SBI PO Exam Pattern, Eligibility and Syllabus

 

The Recruitment Examination for Probationary Officers to various SBI Branches is considered as one of the central banking exams of the country. Every Year, a number of banking aspirants apply for SBI PO Recruitment Examination and the competition level of only escalated further beyond.

SBI PO examination is a three stage process.

 

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination

Preliminary Examination is a screening test conducted to select candidates for the Mains Examination. The preliminary examination is a Computer Based Test which is conducted online.

The examination consists of 1 question paper having multiple choice questions. Duration of the paper is 1 hour.

Stage 2: Mains Examination

After qualifying the prelims exam and fulfilling the adequate criteria candidates are allowed to appear for mains exam.

2. Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test of 30 Minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Note:

  1. For every wrongly attempted question, 1/4th of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty from the score.
  2. From this year, individual section timing is allotted for Objective Tests.
  3. In descriptive test, mostly there are 3 choices given and one has to select any one among the available choices.
  4. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests.

 

Stage 3: Group Discussion & Interview

Another merit list based on the score of mains examination is prepared and adequate number of candidates are called for the third and the final stage of the examination.

The weightage of group discussion is 20 marks and that of personal interview is 30 marks.

Final merit list is prepared based on the performance in the mains examination and GD & Interview.

  1. Age Limit: Age limit is kept between 21 and 30. Age is calculated as on 1st April of the year of examination.
  2. Education Qualification: Candidate must a hold a graduate degree

IBPS PO Exam Pattern, Eligibility and Syllabus

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts Common Written Examination (CWE PO/MT) every year for the recruitment of Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee vacancies in 20 Public Sector Banks.

The examination is a three stage process which includes Preliminary, Mains Examination and Personal Interview. Preliminary and Mains both are computer based examinations.

Stage-I: Preliminary Examination

It is a computer based test in which the candidates have to qualify in each of the three parts by securing cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS.

Negative Marking: For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score.

The corrected scores obtained by each of the candidates in different sessions (if held) will be normalized using equi-percentile method.

A merit list based on the normalized score will be released based only on the Online Main examination. The candidate must obtain a minimum score in each test and also a minimum total score in all 5 tests.

 

Interview

Candidates who have been shortlisted in the main examination for CWE PO/MT-VI will subsequently be called for an Interview to be conducted by the Participating Organisations and coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/ UT with the help of IBPS.

The total marks allotted for Interview are 100. The minimum qualifying marks in interview will not be less than 40% (35% for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD candidates).

The weightage (ratio) of CWE (Main exam) and interview will be 80:20 respectively.
